OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE KITCHEN GARDEN
Over the October school holidays, the Vacation Care Staff and children have been busy planting the new raised garden beds located along the North Street staff car park. The produce will be used in OSHC for cooking and hopefully if our crops are plentiful, we will be able to share with the whole community. The garden beds have been planted with, zucchini, rockmelon, cucumbers, sweet corn, capsicum, eggplant, roma tomatoes, mighty red tomatoes, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, mixed lettuce and herbs, including continental parsley, basil and curly leaf parsley. The OSHC program will take care of the garden and up-keep (i.e. watering, weeding, harvesting etc.), by incorporating gardening into our everyday After School Care and Vacation Care program.
Over the next few weeks, we will be making some scarecrows and adding other bits and pieces to the garden. As you can understand, this is a very exciting time as we all watch the gardens grow and develop, along with teaching our children about sustainability, taking care of our environment and the beauty of our world.
