Middle Years: 5-7
Meeting the needs of our young people in Years 5-7 is at the core of who we are as a school. We know positive and supportive relationships between staff and students are crucial within this age group.
This is an important time for self-discovery. They are at a time when students develop their interests, learn new talents, and face challenges that are unique to their age group. We are nurturing young adolescents who are quickly developing physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually and intellectually.
Therefore our themes for this age group are:
- Year 5: We’re a team
- Year 6: Our choices make the difference
- Year 7: We can make a difference as leaders
The focus of the learning environment is challenging, engaging and on the successful achievement of each student. Our goal is to develop the skills for critical thinking and understanding that come from interacting with new information.
The curriculum covers the core learning areas but also encourages cooperative learning, thinking and problem solving skills, leadership and social skills, environmental awareness and access to technology so that each student can achieve their full potential.
Middle Years students learn best when they are engaged with the subject matter through experiences such as role playing, simulations, teamwork and exploration outside the classroom. Dynamic discussions are designed to relate to issues and ideas we know Middle Years students are thinking about.
Our teachers are passionate about creating connections through innovative curriculum as well as spending the time it takes to get to know each individual student. The Caritas Building is an ideal environment for our young people to achieve.
