Primary Years: 3-4
When you walk through the Primary Years classrooms you experience a learning environment that is vibrant with visual displays to assist student learning. Students will be involved in hands on activities, thinking skills and problem solving.
Our aim for students in the Primary Years is to enjoy learning and develop them as independent, cooperative learners. We encourage each child to take risks, show initiative and learn to take more responsibility for their behaviour. The use of resources such as games and information technology is important in engaging students and consolidate their knowledge.
Our children learn skills to get along with others and form happy and positive relationships with their peers and staff. They will be supported in a nurturing, safe and fun environment where each person is valued and respected.
To maximise learning in Year 3 and 4 our themes are:
- Year 3: I’m a good friend
- Year 4: Everyone is special
Teachers provide opportunities for the whole class, small group and independent activities. Recognising the potential of each individual, the teachers value students learning from each other and utilising peer support in the classroom. We encourage students to reflect on their learning in order to promote successful individual achievement.
Recognising the needs of the students in the Primary Years is an integral part of ensuring a positive learning experience. Knowing this, the staff will endeavor to further develop the physical, educational, emotional and spiritual needs of a child to prepare them for the next phase of their learning and development.
As educators we are also learners. As staff we model to our the students, the skills, behaviours and values we want them to have.
