Early Learning Programs

Through each stage of the St Joseph’s Hectorville Early Learning Program, we help inspire our littlest ones into a life of curiosity. This early exposure to the school environment, can also support any fears parents may have in ensuring a smooth transition into school, and all the way through to Year 6 graduation.

Preschool

Preschool is the perfect introduction to school life for your 4-year-old, and an integral part of early learning. Our Preschool program is focussed on the child learning through play as they develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

Our Preschool is a vibrant and dynamic place, where strong relationships are formed between educators, children and parents, acting as an excellent way to build confidence, capability and belonging in the school environment.

“We are really impressed. It’s been great seeing how instantly comfortable our child feels and most importantly that she is happy especially with all the learning and activities she does every day.” – Preschool family

In the St Joseph’s Hectorville preschool setting, we believe that children are capable of learning individually and with others through various means. We use the Belonging, Being and Becoming Curriculum to guide this teaching.

Beginning school for our littlest learners can be daunting, but the beauty of starting their journey with our preschool ensures they have the advantage of feeling confident, safe and secure in their surroundings and the people within it.

An added bonus is that our preschool offers a mid-year intake for children who turn 4 years old from 1 May through to 31 October. This supports a family’s opportunity to ensure their child can enter the school environment and gain authentic learning experiences as soon as they are old enough.

Find out how to enrol for our preschool here, or get in touch with our team to book in a tour of our school – we love hosting new visitors.

Occasional Care

Occasional care is available for half and full-day sessions (for children who have turned 3 years, and are toilet-trained). These sessions provide independent exploration, structured activities and hands-on learning, offering children exposure to a variety of skills and knowledge in early learning literacy, numeracy, science and social skills.

  • Morning session: 8:45am – 11:45am
  • Afternoon session: 12pm – 3pm
  • Full-day session: 9am – 3pm
“I love it and my son loves it! He always comes home happy. It’s always clean and feels good to go there.” – Occasional Care family

Playgroup

Our growing playgroup program is available for children 0 to 4 years of age who are not attending preschool. It is an opportunity for little ones, with their parents/caregivers, to learn, socialise and build friendships. We provide a space for children to learn new skills and become familiar with the school environment in an informal and fun way. It’s also a great way to get to know other families in our community.

Playgroup sessions are held in the OSHC room on Wednesday and Friday mornings during the school term from 9am – 10:30am.
