We take an active role in developing leadership qualities from an early age. Children learn these skills through various leadership roles in the classroom, representing their class at forums, Student Representative Council or as Mission Representatives. We want our students to be confident, independent and be active participants in the life of the community when they leave St Joseph’s at the end of Year 6.
St Joseph’s School students are given many opportunities to be student leaders. Groups of student leaders meet throughout each term at specified times during class time. We aim that all children will be given the chance to be a student leader during their years at St Joseph’s.
All Year 6 students at St Joseph’s School are ‘leaders'. Every student in Year 6 takes part in a leadership program at school. The Year 6 teachers work as a team to build a team of leaders. The theme of ‘Leadership' permeates the Year 6 curriculum and as senior leaders they undertake many roles in the school. The leadership roles given to Year 6s includes: Hospitality representatives, Education for Sustainability Crew, House Captains, Student Voice representatives, Sports representatives, Peer Mediators, Altar Server leaders and Canteen monitors.
Every Year 6 student is presented with the MacKillop Badge of service to our community. This is a symbol and a link between our Josephite tradition and the skills and qualities our leadership program aims to teach.
All students with a leadership role in our school community are presented with a Student Leader Badge.
